SOZO Field House Near Completion
YAKIMA, Wa - There's the saying how if you build it they will come. When it comes to the SOZO Sports Complex, if you build it, they will come and they will play.
Construction crews are putting the finishing touches on the roof of the new field house at the SOZO Sports Complex just south of the Yakima Air Terminal. Right now it kind of looks like an airplane hangar, but once complete it'll be game on.
"You know it's great, one of the things we've really been lacking," Yakima Valley Sports Commission director Rich Austin said. "(We) need an indoor facility you can use for multiple sports, such things as: volleyball, basketball (and) indoor soccer."
There are still some finishing touches to be done including installing the sports court floor as well as completing the insulation for the facility.
By mid-July this 13,000 square foot facility will be ready for action and there are two more field houses that will be built at SOZO.
"We're just excited to be able to have this and be able to start marketing," Austin said. "Have some tournament, we can have leagues here (and) recreational play. There's really no end to what we can put in this building."
