CWU close to hiring new football coach

Central Washington University on the verge of naming a new head football coach.

Wyoming defensive coordinator Chris Tormey, a finalist for the top cat position at Cwu. Tormey has NCAA Division One head coaching experience at Idaho and Nevada. The former Vandals player was also an assitant at Washington State and the U-Dub. Tormey, the highest profile name among the four finalists being interviewed on campus this week. The other three include John Graham, associate head coach and dedfensive coordinator at Eastern Washington. Ian Shoemaker, co-offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Saint Cloud State. And, multi state champion Skyline High in Sammamish head coach and CWU grad Mat Taylor.

Dennis Francois "A lot of positive feedback from Alumni with regards to some of the candidates we have here. Also positive feedback from people who they've interacted with and coached with the other individuals as well. A well balanced group; It's going to be a tough decision. But, it's a very big decision. Means a lot to our program and to our University."

Athletic Director Francois told me he expects to make an offer to his choice to take over the reigns of Wildcat football by this weekend. Ready to kick off a new era of Central pigskins after an interim season watched over by assistant John Picha...filling in for fired top guy Blaine Bennett. And, a refreshing change for CWU football....doing away with the one year at a time contracts.

Dennis Francois "Probably a multi-year contract for this individual. Shows we want to have stability to our program. that's an important thing. Almost an expectation. Want him to stick around for a little bit. Most definitely, most definitely."
