YPD reports surge in car thefts

YAKIMA, Wash. -- YPD reports a surge in stolen cars over the last month - and the thieves are doing it overnight.

Police say they've made several recent arrests in stolen car cases, but that hasn't stopped the activity.

Most of the cars taken have been Hondas. Areas east of 16th Avenue have been targeted more often.

Neighbors are concerned.

"Just about everybody around here is, because you have to watch it really close or your windows get busted or your mirrors get knocked off or bumper gets kicked off, because they're trying to get in there to steal it," said Katherine Todd.

Police recommend parking in a garage to protect your car if you can. If not, use security devices like steering wheel locks.
