More than 500 households in the Kissel Park neighborhood are in the curbside program. Coordinators say neighbors aren't mixing as much garbage with it as they were.
Yakima plans to hire consultants to evaluate the results in the fall. Program volunteer, Christine Markowski, is optimistic about it going citywide.
"For me, I think, that's incredible. And, if you think about expanding that, if this were to be put citywide, imagine how many more tons...how many more tons of recycling product would not go into the landfill."
The pilot program is free. A citywide program would likely charge a monthly pickup fee.
