Union Gap mayor strips city administrator of authority to fire employees

UNION GAP, Wash. -- KIMA has learned Mayor Jim Lemon has taken away the city administrator's ability to fire employees.

Action News exclusively has a copy of the letter Mayor Lemon wrote to the city attorney.

The Union Gap City Administrator, Chris Jensen, said he's been so busy, he's fine with the mayor's move.

"The mayor is still the mayor and he's in charge still," Chris Jensen said. "If he wishes to take back some of these responsibilities relative to personnel matter, that's certainly his prerogative, he's the mayor and I recognize that. It did catch me off-guard."

Jim Lemon remains Union Gap's mayor until November 26th.
