Remembering a local soldier killed in Afghanistan
SELAH, Wash. -- People around the valley are mourning the loss of a local soldier killed by a missile in Afghanistan earlier this week.
Captain Aaron Blanchard was a married father of two. He was born and raised in Selah.
Blanchard served two tours with the Marines in Iraq.
After that, he joined the ROTC and graduated from Central Washington University. He remained in the Army and was recently promoted to captain at age 32.
Blanchard was sent to Afghanistan only a few weeks ago.
"Aaron loved the Army and he was doing what he loved and he had some goals in his life," said family friend DeLynn Elliott. "One was to be married, one was to have kids and one was to be in the Army and fly - and he was able to do all of those."
