Police: 21-year-old robbed, shot; suspect at large
YAKIMA POLICE NEWS RELEASE -- On 8-6-12 at approximately 2144 hrs., Yakima Police Officers responded to reports of shots fired and a victim of a gunshot wound down in the 1200 block of Swan Ave. A 21 year old male victim was found inside an apartment unresponsive and bleeding heavily from a gunshot wound to his upper leg and head lacerations. He was transported to the hospital where he was last determined to be stable with serious injuries.
Very little information regarding the suspect(s) involved was obtained by police. It is believed at this point the victim was sitting on the stair way of the two story apartment building talking on his cell phone when confronted by one or more suspects (unknown descriptions) who asked if he was a gang banger. Victim denied gang affiliation and the suspects demanded his wallet and cell phone and then shot him as he sat on the steps. The victim ran upstairs and collapsed falling down the stairs. He got up and made it to his own apartment downstairs where family members found him, and he collapsed again inside; was unconscious when Officers arrived on scene. Initial immediate first aid care was given and victim regained consciousness soon after and was transported to the hospital where he remains stable at this time with serious injury to his leg.
