New car sales on the rise in Yakima

YAKIMA, Wash. -- Local car dealers say they're seeing a big jump in the number of new cars being sold. One dealer said he saw a 30 percent increase this July compared to the same time last year.

From Subaru to Chrysler, the trend's being seen throughout the city. Used car sales remain steady. Dealers credit the rapid new car sales with continued low interest rates and a growing economy in the Yakima Valley.

"I think in Yakima, as well as the rest of the country, consumer confidence is growing as our economy continues to grow," said Jim Peterson, Lee Peterson Motors general manager.

Lee Peterson Motors says it estimates new car sales are growing at an average of 15 to 20 percent each year.
