The County has handled most of Moxee's misdemeanors for about a decade. New agreements would charge the city at least $50,000 a year for the same services it once got for free.
Yakima County would also keep all fines and fees. Moxee's city supervisor said the change makes sense, given the increased caseloads.
"There's always a bite when there's an expense like that, that you hadn't really planned for," said Moxee City Supervisor, Byron Adams. "But, it wasn't completely unexpected. We've been kind of skating under the radar for quite a few years."
Yakima County Commissioners are expected to approve the agreements tomorrow.
