County engineers make progress on I-82 interchange project

YAKIMA, Wash. -- County engineers are halfway done with a plan to change I-82 access ramps. It's part of an effort to redevelop the old Cascade Mill site.

Yakima County is working to get federal money to cover it.

Engineers are about halfway through the five step process.

"We've moved a long ways forward. When you look back it looks, it's kind of frustrating because you always look and wonder if it could've moved faster," said Gary Ekstedt, Yakima County engineer.

County engineers plan to submit their plan for approval next year.

It will still take several years to break ground.
