YPD: Teen accidentally shot herself at party with stolen gun
YAKIMA, Wash. -- More details have emerged in the tragic death of a Yakima teen over the weekend, who police said was killed with a stolen gun.
Detectives said the investigation shows 18-year-old Sofia Ramirez accidentally shot herself in the head while playing with a gun at a party Saturday night.
Police said that gun was one of the firearms stolen in a robbery at Bi-Mart back in January.
Ramirez was found in an abandoned car in a parking lot Sunday morning, after police said friends panicked and left her there when they realized she was dead.
Authorities say party-goers admitted to using drugs and alcohol.
The toxicology report for Ramirez is pending but authorities said no charges will be filed.
"The only potential charges that they could face was illegal transport of a human body, which would have been a misdemeanor," said Yakima Police Department (YPD) spokesperson Mike Bastinelli. "They were all juveniles and they were very cooperative and the information they provided helped us to solve this case."
Authorities said a misdemeanor charge would include fines. However, police said they are focusing resources on several unsolved crimes.
