YPD searching for suspect who shot man in legs

YAKIMA, Wash. -- Police are looking for a man behind a robbery that ended in gunfire in Yakima Tuesday morning. Investigators say they know who they're looking for, but they aren't releasing that information to the public.

A 32-year-old man hit by the bullet is expected to be OK.

It wasn't a quiet morning for this Yakima neighborhood. Marc Cole was shot in both legs near Ninth Avenue and Walnut Street.

Julian Juarez heard the trouble.

"I heard him singing, and then about, I want to say, 15 to 20 minutes later, I heard him screaming, 'Help me, help me,'" said Julian.

"I can't say I've ever had anything like that happen that close to where I'm at," said neighbor Kelly Norman.

One neighbor told KIMA he saw two people running from the alley where the shooting happened. He says they were screaming someone was shot and needed help.

Other neighbors say there's been trouble at the house in the past.

"I've heard gunshots before, I've seen them with guns, and it's just not a very happy place," said neighbor "Anne."

"I see a bunch of guys riding bikes with backpacks and stuff every day in the mornings, weekends," said David Mendez.

Yakima police say they've dealt with problems here as well. They believe the shooting was drug-related and possibly gang-related.

Detectives say they don't know Cole to have gang ties, but he identified the shooter with a gang name.

The homeowners say they rent the home to Cole's girlfriend, but don't want him there. Now they're taking legal action to make sure he doesn't come back.

Neighbors didn't expect this to start their day.

"It's pretty scary to hear something like that happen in broad daylight; early in the morning, too, is really shocking," said Julian.

Police say they are looking for a blue car that took off from the neighborhood before police got there, but they don't know if the shooter was in the car.
