YPD is now accepting applications for their Spanish Community Academy
YAKIMA Wash. -- The Yakima Police Department is accepting applications for their Spanish Community Academy where people will learn about several subjects within the Police Department.
Most of the classes will be taught in Spanish but an interpreter will be there for a few topics.
Yakima Police Department Spokesperson Mike Bastinelli says there is a lack of participants for the classes and wants people to take advantage of the free opportunity.
“We’re extending this out to the Spanish speaking community. We’ve done it for years but we haven’t had one the last couple of years so we’re just hoping that people will sign up and its free," said Bastinelli.
The Academy will cover a range of law enforcement activities including gang enforcement, criminal investigation, SWAT team and much more.
People will also get to go on a ride along with an officer and a shooting range.
You must be 18 years old and pass a background check before the start of the classes on May 30th.
People can pick up their applications at the Yakima Police Department during regular business hours.
