YPD installing automated ticket writers in cars

YAKIMA, Wash. -- You soon won't be able to blame a routine traffic stop for making you late for work or anything else. YPD is in the process of installing new equipment.

The system will let officers scan licenses and registration. The driver's information will automatically be filled out on the ticket. Under the old system, it takes about 10 minutes for an officer to write a ticket. That will drop to a minute and a half.

"Essentially you have four different people entering the same information the officer's already done," said Yakima Police Captain Jeff Schneider. This way the officer does it one time and it's done all the way through."

Four officers are using the new system right now. It should be in every YPD car in the next month.
