YPD finds 33-year-old man killed from gunshot wounds
YAKIMA, Wash. - Police say a man has died from gunshot wounds in Yakima.
According to reports, the Yakima Police Department (YPD) arrived at the 1400 block of Cherry Avenue after shots were fired around 3:30 a.m., May 10 and found Cuahutemoc Salamanca, 33, of Yakima laying on the sidewalk, deceased.
Residents in the area said Salamanca was walking on the sidewalk when he was confronted by another man on the sidewalk.
The suspect shot the victim and fled the area on foot, according to officials.
Yakima County coroner Jack Hawkins said Salamanca died of gunshot wounds to the chest.
This is the eighth homicide of the year for the city of Yakima and the cases are starting to pile up for the police department.
Mike Bastinelli, with the YPD, says that their detectives are all working around the clock on these cases.
"We are drawing from other areas in the department-- property crimes detectives to help out the major crimes detectives," he said. "It is stretching us, but we are doing all that we can to solve these cases."
YPD detectives are investigating the case. Information will be updated as available.
