YPD donates patrol car to Yakima County citizens patrol

YAKIMA COUNTY, Wash. -- The Nile Citizens Patrol got a new car to help block watch patrols. It was donated by the Yakima Police Department.

It's the sixth car added to the Yakima County Sheriff's Office's volunteer patrol program. The other cars are used to patrol areas like East Valley, West Valley and Zillah.

Citizens patrol said the new car was much needed.

"They like to see the presence of a patrol car up here," said Steve Nevens of the Yakima County Sheriff's Office Citizens Patrol. "It just makes them feel more secure in their surroundings."

More than 50 volunteers are a part of the citizens patrol program.
