Yakima Valley Rocks honoring local veterans
YAKIMA, Wash. - Yakima Valley Rocks is a group that gets together to paint rocks with inspirational messages and various themes and this time they are honoring our local veterans.
They plan to drop them off at veteran’s centers and local businesses in the area offering services to veterans. They also hope to hand them out at the Veteran’s Day parade next weekend.
Tammy Shelton who created the group in August 2016 designed over 400 rocks herself this year and said she hopes to get them to as many veterans as possible.
"They’ll find just the right rock at the right time that might give them the message they needed that day and it gives them hope or encouragement or just a smile on their face,” she said. “Just trying to do something positive in our area.”
These rocks are located all around the valley in parks or outside local businesses and Shelton said if you find a rock you can keep it for yourself or re-hide it for someone else to find.
