Yakima to move forward with plans to take full control of airport

YAKIMA, Wash. -- Yakima is going ahead with plans to take over full control of the airport.

The city and county have shared managing the airport for decades.

Now, Yakima county offered to give its half to the city.

Yakima's city manager says a single owner will increase tourism and improve the economy.

At least one city council member worries Yakima is moving too fast.

"I would like to see us slow down a little bit. Look at the information, decide what we need to do and then move forward. I'm not sure why we are in such a rush to step into this at this time, said council member Kathy Coffey.

City Council will officially vote Tuesday whether to move forward with airport negotiations.

There will also be a study session later this month.
