The Association of Washington Cities sent a letter to state lawmakers asking to share the tax money from pot with local governments.
It actually included Yakima Mayor Micah Cawley's signature. However, he didn't authorize it. Cawley said city staff put his signature on it assuming the letter was in line with Yakima's position on marijuana.
"Cities are always looking for money to operate, but this one kind of took the council and even myself by, 'I don't know if we're going to go here on this issue because it's so new,'" said Cawley.
City Council will hold a special meeting on the matter Friday.
