Yakima student recognized as hero for saving classmate's life

YAKIMA, Wash. -- A local hero was recognized Thursday at Nob Hill Elementary School. Fourth-grader Kamron Butler helped save a classmate's life.

Kamron saw another student choking in the cafeteria. The young hero started slapping his back. That's when the student stopped choking.

Kamron said he knew he had to do something to help.

"It just really scared me and I just didn't know what happened, so I just hurried up and saved his life," he said.

Yakima's fire captain was also at the ceremony honoring Kamron for having the courage to help another student.
