Yakima Regional Medical Center to have new corporate owner

YAKIMA, Wash. -- Yakima Regional Medical Center will soon have a new corporate owner. Shareholders approved the sale of its parent company.

Community Health Systems will take over operations of Health Management Associates. The deal is worth almost $4 billion.

It would make Community Health the largest hospital chain in the US. Regional CEO Richard Robinson expects the deal to bring more money and expertise to Yakima. He isn't worried about layoffs.

"I don't anticipate that would be the case here. I think often times, you see that in a situation where a company like HMS or CHS comes in and acquires facilities that may be performing poorly."

The deal is expected to be finalized before the end of the month.
