Yakima Red Cross seeking blood donations due to shortage
YAKIMA, Wash. -- The Red Cross is seeking all blood types to donate due to the shortage of donations this summer.
There has been a 61,000 decrease in blood donations in May and June. They put out a an emergency call and are still welcoming all blood types, especially O- and O+.
"You know blood can't be created or manufactured so the blood that's used must come from volunteer donors," said Red Cross spokesperson Natividad Lewis.
14,000 blood donations are made everyday to over 2,000 hospitals and transfusion centers across America. The Pacific Northwest needs 700 donors a day to meet the demands of local communities.
All donors will get a free haircut coupon from Sports Clips.
