Yakima pays out less money on damage claims

Yakima is shelling out less money to settle damage claims filed by neighbors.

So far this year, the city has paid about $84,000 for roughly 85 claims. That's a lot less than the $300,000 the city allocated for damages in the budget.

During the same time last year, Yakima paid more than $212,000 on almost 70 claims. That made a bigger dent in the city's reserve fund.

The Yakima Police Department is the subject of most of this year's claims.
