Yakima officers involved in shootings will return to work next week

YAKIMA, Wash. -- Two YPD officers involved in shootings this month will be back on the job next week. The department said the officers have been cleared by a psychiatrist.

Officer Casey Gilette has been on paid leave since killing a man at a Yakima car wash. Gilette told investigators he opened fire because he saw Rocendo Arias holding a gun. It turned out to be an Airsoft gun.

Police said the other officer coming back used his weapon during a domestic violence call on Viola Avenue. Investigators said Lorry Rabanal was shot after he refused to drop his rifle. Rabanal survived.
