Yakima officers honored for saving lives

YAKIMA, Wash. -- Some Yakima police officers were honored at an awards ceremony this afternoon.

Officer Matt Lee received a lifesaving award for performing CPR on an overdose victim in October. The entire Yakima SWAT team was recognized for safely rescuing a hostage in May.

The SWAT team leader says being honored is good, but it's not what drives his unit.

"These officers do this job not for the recognition, because they see and feel a need for it," said Chad Stephens.

City officials say the awards ceremony is one of a number of ways Yakima is doing more to recognize its employees' contributions.
