Yakima murders & homicides down

YAKIMA, Wash. --KIMA learned the number of homicides and murders has been falling not just in the City of Yakima, but also in Yakima County. Last year, there were 22 homicides in Yakima County, 18 were considered murder. So far this year there have been 14 homicides and 12 considered murder. YPD has also seen a slight drop.

"The murder rate is dropping that's very encouraging. I just wish that would be overall the crime would be dropping also maybe this is a leading trend maybe things are changing around and Yakima and our valley will be a safer place for the people that live here and the people that visit," said Yakima resident Jar Arcand.

Police didn't have an exact reason to point to on why the cases may end up lower this year versus last.
