Yakima man dies after crashing motorcycle into minivan

YAKIMA POLICE DEPARTMENT NEWS RELEASE -- At approximately 7:30pm on the evening of July 18, 2014 Yakima Police responded to the intersection of S. 10th Avenue and W. Viola Avenue for a car vs. motorcycle collision. Officers arrived and found that a 1999 Yamaha YZF R6 motorcycle was being ridden westbound, at what was described by witnesses as a high rate of speed, on W. Viola Avenue. It failed to stop at the stop sign and collided with a 2001 Chrysler town and country minivan that was continuing southbound on S. 10th Avenue after having stopped at the stop sign.
The motorcycle collided with the left rear of the minivan and the rider was ejected and suffered serious injuries. First aid was rendered at the scene and the rider was transported to the hospital where he was later pronounced deceased.
The rider of the motorcycle was identified as 24 year old Brandon Rossman of Yakima.
The collision is being investigated by the Yakima Police Department Traffic Investigation Unit and anyone with information is encouraged to contact Sgt. Chance Belton on (509) 576 6789.
