Yakima man dead in I-82 rollover crash
KITTITAS COUNTY, Wash. - A Yakima man is dead after his car rolled over off the I-82 left shoulder.
Washington State Patrol (WSP) reports said 24-year-old Christian Denend of Yakima was driving a 1995 Nissan Altima going west on I-82, 13 miles south of Ellensburg where he tried to pass a 2005 Dodge Ram Pickup that was pulling a white utility trailer, 4:24 p.m. Tuesday.
Reports said Denend was attempting to pass the vehicle and the trailer on the left shoulder and lost control.
Denend's car hit the pickup truck and left the road, causing it to roll several times. Denend was thrown from the car and died at the scene, troopers said.
The driver of the pickup truck, 45-year-old Christina Klein of Yakima and the passenger, 47-year-old Kevin Klein, were not injured in the crash.
WSP troopers said drugs or alcohol were determined to be a factor in the crash. The deceased was not wearing a seatbelt at the time, according to reports.
