Yakima kicks off campaign to become an All-America City

YAKIMA, Wash. -- Yakima kicked off its fundraising campaign Thursday to become an All-America City for 2014. The city is one of 25 finalists across the country.

Yakima's All-America City Committee hopes to send 15 to 25 people to Denver. They'll go there to showcase why Yakima should be an All-America City. The group will also take part in a question and answer session.

Members in Yakima say the community is unique.

"It's not only agricultural, we have kind of a big city type of feeling but not big," said Tony Sandoval. "We got nearby lakes, nearby camping, nearby hiking."

Ten of the finalists will be chosen as an All-America City.
