Yakima hospital earns recognition for heart care

YAKIMA, Wash. -- A Yakima hospital has been recognized as a top center for cardiac care.

Yakima Regional Medical and Cardiac Center is the only hospital in Washington State to receive the American Heart Association's Mission Lifeline Accreditation. The distinction means Regional is doing a good job of coordinating with EMS and nearby hospitals to make sure heart patients get treatment faster.

Regional's assistant ER director says the honor shows the hospital is meeting its goals.

"Heart disease touches everybody," said Danielle Smith. "And so we want to be able to give the best care, and this recognition really highlights and validates the fact that we are giving great care."

Regional also opened a new cardiac unit today. Hospital officials say it will make heart care even more efficient.
