Yakima honoring law enforcement who lost their lives

YAKIMA, Wash. -- Yakima honored men and women who wore the badge and gave their lives in the line of duty. Police officers and other emergency workers marked national Peace Officer Memorial Day at the Yakima Police Department.

Last year, 120 officers died on the job across the country. There have been 41 so far this year. On average, an officer is killed about every two days.

"For all of those officers who have fallen in line of duty, we can't forget that and the citizens need to be reminded on a daily basis or continually the sacrifice that these officers and their families make to keep them safe," said Yakima Police Department Chief Dominic Rizzi.

YPD said it's never lost an officer on duty.
