Yakima develops North 1st Street Task Force to clean up the area

YAKIMA, Wash. -- KIMA learned another part of the plan to cut crime in Yakima concentrates on North First Street.

Yakima set up a task force to identify and tackle issues in the area.

Police officers, code enforcement, and firefighters are working with community development leaders.

The focus is a comprehensive approach to improve North First Street. The task force will work to reduce crime and other concerns.

"We are going to continue to be very aggressive about making sure businesses on North 1st are operating properly and safely," said Yakima City Manager Tony O'Rourke. "And, we'll continue to do that until the area is completely cleaned up."

Infrastructure along North First is also being addressed.

A grant will pay to resurface part of the street, fix drains and improve the sidewalks.
