Yakima County ready to issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples

YAKIMA, Wash. -- Same sex couples can start getting marriage licenses in Washington on Thursday. And, dozens can tie the knot here in Yakima.

Yakima County's marriage licensing office said several people have called to ask about it.

Employees there don't expect to issue more than 25 licenses on Thursday.

Marriages couldn't actually take place until Sunday. Supporters were glad the time has come.

"Its been a battle we've been fighting for years and it wasn't simply just to get married. It was to have the same equalities," said Bill Poores.

The Yakima County licensing office opened at 9:00 a.m. A basic marriage license costs $64.
