Yakima County police chase ends with suspect in hospital, others arrested
WAPATO, Wash. - A suspect is undergoing surgery after a chase with the police leads to a shooting.
According to Yakima County Sheriff's Office (YCSO) reports, suspects in a vehicle shot at a house at the 300 block of Old McCoy Road around 1:27 p.m., Monday.
The resident reported the gunshot and police spotted the vehicle fleeing the area.
Law enforcement officers were pursuing the vehicle when one of the suspects, 25-year-old Raymond Guerrero-Garcia, from the Toppenish area, exited the vehicle with a gun at the 200 block of S. Camas Avenue, according to police.
YCSO deputies and a Yakama Nation Tribal police officer chased Guerrero-Garcia on foot.
Police said the suspect ran into a local wrecking yard and pointed a handgun at the officers. One of the officers then shot Guerrero-Garcia.
Police called for medics and the suspect was taken to a local hospital where he underwent surgery, officials said.
According to YCSO reports, the vehicle continued to flee until crashing near the N. Camas and Donald-Wapato Road intersection, where officials arrested other suspects.
The deputy with the Yakima County sheriff's office has been placed on administrative leave as part of procedure when a deputy involved shooting occurs.
Guerrero-Garcia was admitted to Memorial then later transported to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle where he remains in critical condition.
UPDATE Authorities at Harborview confirmed to Action News that Guerrero-Garcia was released from the hospital June 20, 2017.
The Yakima Police Department continues to investigate the incident.
