Yakima County head prosecutor not seeking re-election

YAKIMA, Wash. -- Yakima County Prosecuting Attorney James Hagarty has told KIMA that he will not be seeking re-election.

This news comes after Joe Brusic announced his candidacy for the position Friday. Brusic spent more than a decade as a Yakima County Superior Court prosecutor.

Hagarty was appointed to his role in 2008 after serving as a prosecutor in Klickitat County. He took over for Ron Zirkle following his retirement. Hagarty was elected by the people in the fall of 2009. His current term expires at the end of the year.
