Yakima Councilwoman Sara Bristol to resign

YAKIMA, Wash. -- Yakima City Council is gearing up for a busy fall. But, one member is saying goodbye.

Councilwoman Sara Bristol will leave her post by the end of the year. She's served Yakima's second district for almost two years and is only halfway through her term.

Bristol and her husband accepted jobs with a newspaper in her hometown of Grants Pass, Oregon.

Yakima Mayor Micah Cawley says Bristol has been a strong collaborator: "It's been fun to serve with Sara. Politics is not an easy line of work. She's just one of those people you can talk to and have a conversation with. She's open to listen and share ideas. It's nice to have that relationship with someone who cares about Yakima and wants to do good for Yakima."

Rather than a vote from the people, City Council will appoint a replacement to serve until 2015 when Bristol's seat is up for election.
