Yakima City Council consider declaring emergency in landslide
YAKIMA, Wash. - The Yakima City Council is considering an emergency declaration in response to the impending Rattlesnake Ridge landslide.
City council will discuss the potential declaration at a regular business meeting, January 16 at 6 p.m.
The declaration could also make the City of Yakima eligible for disaster relief, according to a statement from the City of Yakima.
Yakima County and the City of Union Gap have declared a disaster due to the landslide, according to geologists studying the landslide.
Yakima Fire Chief Bob Stewart said that would only be the case in the unlikely event of serious damage.
The meeting can be watched live by visiting the City of Yakima website.
