It's one of 25 finalists nationwide. Ten will be chosen as All-America Cities for 20-14.
Yakima earned the recognition once before in 1994.
Supporters say winning would highlight what the area has to offer.
"I think what it's going to create is a time of reflection on all the positive things this valley has," said Joe Mann, chair of Yakima's All-America City Committee. "And so I think when people drive down the street and they see one of these signs, they'll take a moment and say, 'Wow, we really do live in a great place.'"
Committee members will go to Denver in June to make their case for Yakima to be an All-America City.
