Woman sentenced to 15 months in prison for vehicular homicide of Toppenish couple
YAKIMA COUNTY, Wash. -- A 20-year-old woman is headed to prison after pleading guilty to two counts of vehicular homicide for the deaths of a Toppenish couple.
Leticia Gasca-Esquivel was sentenced to 15 months in prison Wednesday morning.
She admitted to killing Angela and Kyle Walker after crashing into their car on State Route 22 in July 2015.
Police said she was speeding when she ran a stop sign. Test results showed she hadn’t been drinking or using drugs.
Gasca-Esquivel and two passengers were taken to a hospital with serious injuries.
Prosecutors called the incident "reckless." The couple leaves behind four children ages 15 to 19.
Family members of both victims as well as the defendant spoke at her sentencing. Gasca-Esquivel apologized and asked the families for forgiveness.
She will also serve 18 months of community custody probation and pay $12,000 in restitution.
