Woman found dead near lighthouse
REEDSPORT, Ore. - A couple found the body of a woman at the bottom of a steep hill below a popular Pacific Ocean overlook along Highway 101 on Sunday morning.
State police called the woman's death a homicide.
The couple called 911 around 8:20 a.m., and police responded to the scene. Dispatch logs indicate the couple reported the woman's body was nude.
Lt. Steve Smartt said Monday that the body has been removed from the scene below Winchester Bay Wayfinding Point, 3 miles south of Reedsport.
No word yet on her identity or cause of death.
Investigators kept the viewpoint closed Sunday and Monday as crime lab investigators processed the scene for clues. The viewpoint view of the ocean, a coastal lake and the historic Umpqua River Lighthouse.
Investigators asked for the public's help reporting any suspicious people or activity seen at the Winchester Bay Wayfinding Point and the surrounding southern coast area.

Even though tips may be received anonymously, those providing tips are encouraged to give contact information for follow-up by the investigators.
Dispatch logs also show a report of shots fired in the area shortly before the couple discovered the body. No word yet on whether the two incidents are related.
