Woman, 72, evacuated from cruise ship off Wash. coast

SEATTLE - A 72-year-old woman was evacuated from a cruise ship off the Washington coast early Monday after she reportedly suffered stroke-like symptoms, the U.S. Coast Guard reported.

The Coast Guard responded after receiving an emergency call from the cruise ship Norwegian Pearl at about 11 p.m. Sunday as it was sailing about 17 miles northwest of Neah Bay.

A crew from the Coast Guard station at Neah Bay launched a 47-foot rescue boat and arrived on scene at about 12:40 a.m. Monday to transfer the patient off of the cruise ship.

She was taken Neah Bay then airlifted by Coast Guard helicopter to Olympic Medical Center in Port Angeles.

The woman's condition was not immediately available.
