GRANT COUNTY, Wash. - A wind-driven wildfire forced the evacuation of several homes near Soap Lake Monday night, according to the Grant County Sheriff's Office.

Homes on the east side of State Route 17 North, from milepost 91 south to the city of Soap Lake were given a Level 3 evacuation notice which means "leave now."

Homes on the west side of SR 17, from Smokiam RV Park north to Lake Lenore Dr. were given a Level 2 notice, which means there is a significant risk and mandatory evacuations could be issued.

The sheriff's office said the so-called Milepost 81 Fire was estimated to be between 100 and 1,000 acres

They did not know exactly how many homes were at risk, but said their reverse 911 system targeted about 115 residents in the area.

Firefighters from the Department of Natural Resources have been called in to help.

This is a developing story and will be updated as new information becomes available.
