White Pass opens tomorrow morning
WHITE PASS, Wash.- One of Eastern Washington's main attractions will be opening up tomorrow.
Ski fans can start bringing out the winter gear early this year because White Pass is opening their doors Saturday, on the morning of Nov. 18.
"This really is kind of an early opening for us. Over the last ten years, we open the very end of November or early December, so having an extra two or three weeks will be a nice boost for those who love to ski and snowboard and plus the businesses," said Kevin McCarthy, White Pass General Manager.
There will also be a new element added to the resort this year. They replaced their old rope tow machine and added a new and easier model that beginners can now use to help them get up the mountain easier.
"The beginner snow boarders and skiers, they don't have to worry about how they're going to get up the hill. It's just makes it so much easier. The days of the old rope tows, that's long gone," said McCarthy.
McCarthy says the early start will also help with the states water supply.
"In the big picture, is it's starting to put the snow reservoir for water, for the valley in the mountains, so that's huge," said McCarthy.
Nearly 75% of the Western States water supplies comes from snowmelt, according to the United States Geological Survey.
White Pass will be having 175 employees working tomorrow to help with the big crowd, McCarthy is expecting a couple thousand people to show up for the start of the season tomorrow.
White Pass will open at 8:45 a.m.
