Washington wildfires delay bicyclists riding across country

YAKIMA, Wash. -- The Washington fires forced a group of bicyclists to detour on their cross-country trek. The cyclists are going from Washington to Illinois.

They came to Yakima because of road closures and smoke due to the wildfires in central and eastern Washington. The group of five expects the fires will delay them for about a week on their trip. They're averaging 82 miles a day and plan to stop in Idaho, Montana and Wyoming.

"They're on the bucket list for each of us," said Bob Smith. "We just decided before we got too old to do it which isn't very far away, that we ought to get this done."

The 2,600 mile trip is expected to take about 40 days.
