Wapato police looking for drive-by shooting suspects

WAPATO, Wash. -- Wapato police are looking for suspects in a drive-by shooting Monday night.

Officers say they responded to a report of shots fired in the 200 block of West Elizabeth Street around 10 p.m. and found a man who had been shot in the hip.

The victim told police a gray SUV pulled up and the suspects motioned him closer. The suspects then noticed his San Francisco 49ers jacket and asked him which gang he belonged to. When he said he did not belong to any gang, the victim says the suspects began shooting at him. He was struck in the hip, and the suspects drove away to the north on Track Road.

The victim was taken to Memorial Hospital and underwent surgery. He said he did not recognize his attackers.

The suspects are believed to be Hispanic and in their 20s. Their vehicle is described as a dark gray Ford Expedition with black wheels. Anyone with information on the shooting is asked to contact the Wapato Police Department.
