Two suspects arrested in Wapato & Toppenish drive-bys

YSO NEWS RELEASE -- On May 30 at about 2300 hrs a robbery was reported at the Roadrunner in the 700 block of W. 1st Street in Wapato. A vehicle driven from that robbery was described as a dark colored Nissan pickup. Five minutes later a drive by shooting was reported in the 4500 block of N. Track Road. The same vehicle was involved in that incident. No one was injured.

At about 2310 hours a vehicle matching the suspect vehicle description was seen by YSO Sergeant Mike Russell. The pickup truck was at Track Road and Wierman Road and was headed toward Toppenish. As the pickup truck neared the city limits of Toppenish a Toppenish PD officer joined Sgt. Russell. A passenger in the pickup began firing a handgun at the pursuing police vehicles. While none of the shots struck the police vehicles, an occupied residence in Toppenish was hit. At 2314 hours the driver of the Nissan pickup failed to negotiate a turn at the intersection of Fir and Jefferson and the pickup struck the curb and rolled onto its side. The two occupants were taken into custody without further incident.

Both occupants are gang members with extensive criminal histories. They are both Hispanic males and are in their early twenties. Both are from Toppenish. They were booked at the Yakima County Jail on a multitude of felony charges.
