Traffic tickets drop as police make more rounds

YAKIMA, Wash. -- Traffic tickets are down in Yakima. KIMA pulled the numbers and found police wrote fewer than half the tickets they did for the same period last year.

YPD says regular patrols and more officers helped establish a greater presence to get more drivers to obey the law.

Speeding, texting while behind the wheel and illegal parking are the most common violations.

Highly patrolled streets include Yakima Avenue, Tieton and Nob Hill.

Patrols change depending on where they are needed.
