Terrace Heights Elementary custodian wins ESD 105 Classified Employee of the Year
YAKIMA, Wash.--An elementary school custodian is being honored as the Educational Service District (ESD) 105's Regional Classified Employee of the Year.
Custodian Dan Holzer was given the award during a surprise assembly at Terrace Heights Elementary on Wednesday.
Holzer has been with the East Valley School District since 1996 and is responsible for keeping up the condition of the school as well as helping organize activities.
One of his favorite parts of the job is interacting with students on a daily basis.
"It's just a good atmosphere. I mean, I like being in there at lunchtime with them. I have little guys help me out, clean up at lunchtime. They get a big kick out of that," Holzer said.
"There are things now at our school that we do, the PBIS (Positive Behavior Intervention & Support) program and it's all about being positive," he added.
Holzer will now serve as one of nine regional candidates for the state Classified Employee of the Year award.
That winner will be announced at the beginning of May in Olympia.
