Teen in unintentional shooting being charged with manslaughter
YAKIMA, Wash. –- The teen who police say unintentionally shot and killed a man made his first court appearance Thursday.
Police say 19-year old Alexiz Virgen-Chavez accidentally shot 29-year-old Omar Sanabria-Rizo in an SUV, Saturday night.
They say Virgen-Chavez was sitting in the cargo area, holding a loaded rifle with the safety off, when the SUV started to move and the rifle went off, going through a seat in front of him, and hitting Sanabria-Rizo in the lower back.
911 was called and police say they met the vehicle with Virgen-Chavez, his father, and Sanabria-Rizo in the Target parking lot.
Sanabria-Rizo died from his injury.
Now, Virgen-Chavez is being charged with second degree manslaughter.
