Teen facing rape charges from Yakima Greenway arrest may be charged as an adult
A 16-year-old that is facing rape charges may be tried as an adult according to the county prosecutor.
UPDATE, (Dec. 11): Yakima County Superior Judge Ruth Reukauf pushed back the teen's hearing to Feb. 12.
Police said the minor attacked and raped a 19-year-old woman on the Yakima Greenway near Sarge Hubbard Park.
While he is under 18, Prosecuting Attorney Joe Brusic said he thinks there is enough evidence to charge him as an adult.
"We believe that the evidence that it was exceptionally serious allegation of rape and we take that into account to making the decision," he said.
Brusic said there is a hearing next week to determine if he is going to be tried as a minor or an adult.
